Tips of the Day from Dr Ross Walker

COLONOSCOPY

The best treatment of heart disease or cancer is not to get them in the first place. Bowel cancer is one of the commonest cancers afflicting modern society and, in almost all cases, is totally preventable.

Although not a general medical recommendation, I believe all people over the age of 40 should consider having a colonoscopy. (Long black tube inserted under sedation viewing the entire colon looking for pre-cancerous polyps).

If polyps are found, these can be removed during the colonoscopy and thus bowel cancer is prevented.

Good health,
